That's because the 500 was incorrect. Gem packs have always been 500 MC // 1000 gems. 1000 gems is as intended.    1 MC is valued at 2 gems; that's how it's always been.

I would imagine that the packs will still be available since the new players have the same requirements as the already existing TOTY 98s. However, remember with the coin packs being updated on a 48 hour cycle, don't expect to see them pop-up as an offer again until Friday morning if you already purchased them twice today.

You aren’t able to add them to any sets nor exchange them once you upgrade them, however.   To answer your question OP, I wouldn’t recommend exchanging any Master Series players upgraded or not in case they are needed for Mahomes, as has been hinted at being a possibility.
